A photograph of Cicianne and Nasut Dede from 2009

I was about 14 years old at the time, and I was coming along with my mother on our weekly visits to see Cicianne and Nasut Dede. I was excited for two reasons. The first one was that Cicianne would make her hallmark ice cream: huge mounds of chocolate ice cream covered in all sorts of wonderful toppings almonds, cookies, bananas, cherries, raspberries form the garden, self-made jams and preserves. It was a treat every weak.

But secondly, I was eager

Death is inevitable but the news still stings just the same. Our elder generation of loved ones are slowly departing, leaving us with a void that cannot be filled. He was a great role model and his legacy will live on through all that those he touched, especially his sons Akif and Zeyn. From the age of 12 until today, 49 years later, I always felt welcome in your home. You will forever have our respect. Your company, as also Ayten teyzes, was much enjoyed and will be dearly missed.
May you rest in peace.

As a friend and colleague of Zeyn, we were lucky enough to have met his Dad when he visited Pennsylvania. We could tell he was a man of sincerity and genuineness by the way he spoke, and the stories he told. Even the last ones from his hospital bed before he died, were a testament to his sense of humor, and his love of people.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his brother, to Zeyn and Debbie, his brother and family,

Mr. Uzman was such a kind, generous, intelligent, patient, driven and giving man. My mother, Linda, and I cleaned his house together, bi-weekly, for years. We enjoyed listening to Zeyn's wife, Ayten, tell us stories from their past and talk about their children, grandchildren, and pet cats. They'd always share food with us, too. Mr. and Mrs. Uzman were beautiful people, inside and out! They'll always be remembered fondly, and never forgotten. Bless their dear souls!

Dear Uzman Family, I would like to express my condolences for the loss of your beloved father. I wish I had known him before, still I feel myself luck to get to meet him in his last days, and have a chance to chat with him. After seeing him recovering at his ICU bed, it was quite shocking to hear that his heart could not work anymore and stopped next day. Even during this short period, it was obviously noticeable that he is a warm, loving, friendly person.
May he rest in peace!

Mr. Uzman's son, Zeyn, is my best friend since our college days at UM. I accompanied Zeyn on several occasions to visit his parents when we were in college. His parents were so warm and caring towards me, treating me like their own son. Mrs. Uzman was gregarious. Mr. Uzman had a quiet, composed demeanor, soft spoken and always smiling. He loved to tell stories and he was very good at it. If Norman Rockwell did a painting of him,

My condolences to the family and friends of Nasut. I will always remember his warm and generous nature with everyone. He was well informed on many topics both current and historical and ready to discuss them. A modest man with a firm and welcoming handshake. I will miss him.

Whenever I think of "Mr. Uzman" as he was to me as a child, I remember him coming home from work and then coming outside to sit in the garden area with his wife to catch up on the day and get ready for dinner. Many times I remember him grilling in the yard and laughing at the silly things Zeyn and I would be doing. I also remember him downstairs working at his desk or tending to his stamp
