Alex Bodnariuk, age 84, died Saturday, August 5, 2017 at his northern Michigan retreat in Ocqueoc Township, Michigan. Alex was born March 18, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Michael Bodnariuk and the late Jennie Hudson.

Alex was raised in Detroit and graduated from Eastern High School where he excelled in sports. Alex began his professional career as a roofer in Detroit, belonging to Roofers Local #149. He would have to pause his work as a roofer to serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Alex served proudly from 1953 until receiving his honorable discharge in 1955.

Mr. Bodnariuk returned home to Detroit following his military service and also returned to the roofers workforce. Throughout his years within the Roofers Union, Alex served in various capacities and councils. Mr. Bodnariuk served as the Business Agent for Local #149, and later finished as the International Vice President for the Roofers Union.

Some of his proudest accomplishments in his life were serving the members of the union and helping the member families along the way. His family said he wanted to be remembered for advocating for anyone in need, and was also willing to give the shirt off his back to help others. Even in retirement, Alex was never one to sit still... he would always be willing to help a friend or neighbor with a project. However, beyond the Union, Alex considered his greatest achievement to be his children and grandchildren, and made every best effort to attend all their sporting and school events when they were young.

Mr. Bodnariuk was the beloved husband of Dolores, and dear father of Alex (Marianne) Bodnariuk and Andrew (Cheryl) Bodnariuk. Cherished grandfather. and also survived by many loving family members and friends.

Visitation for Mr. Bodnariuk will be held Thursday, August 10th from 10:00 am until time of the Funeral Service at 12:00 pm (noon) at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. Officiating the Funeral Services will be Fr. Dimitrie Vincent.
