Heart Emblem

Elizabeth "Betty" Dostert, age 77, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy. Betty was born June 15, 1939 in Canada to the late Mike and the late Evangeline (nee: Mars) Gliganich.

Betty would reside in Canada until age 12 at which time her family moved to Detroit. On the day that Betty was enrolling at Annuciation Catholic School, a young man by the name of Gerald Dostert would be checking Betty out from afar and telling his friends how beautiful he thought this girl was. A little later in the day he came up with the courage to approach her and said "I know your name is Betty, my name is Jerry, don't forget it." It was shortly after this bold statement that Jerry and Betty would begin their courtship, which would blossom over the next 9 years and ultimately lead them to the altar at Annunciation Catholic Church where they were married and began their life together as husband & wife.

Upon graduating from High School, Betty took a secretarial job with Blue Cross Blue Shield. After a short time, Betty would accept a position with the Kmart Corporation at their corporate offices in Troy, a job where she would remain for over 20 years.

Betty and Jerry loved to test lady luck at one of our states many casinos. They became regulars on bus trips across the state to test their luck. They even made it to Las Vegas to take a chance on the "strip". Other trips the two enjoyed included Branson, Missouri, Arizona and many trips to the northern parts of Michigan.

Betty was the beloved wife of Gerald E. "Jerry" for 56 1/2 years; the loving mother of Daniel (Pauline) Dostert, Donald Dostert, and David (Karen) Dostert; a cherished grandmother of Chad, Brett, Ava, Jenny, Lauren and Monica. She is also survived by a sister in law, Phyllis Gliganich. She was preceded in death by her brother Richard "Rick".

A private family visitation and burial service were held.
