Evelyn Merrifield (nee: Chaparas & a.k.a. Chappel), age 96 a longtime resident of Harrison Township, died Saturday August 18, 2018 at St. John Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Evelyn was born October 9, 1921 in Knox City, Missouri, daughter of the late Frank and the late Catherine (nee: Lindsey) Chaparas.

Evelyn's family moved to Detroit when she was a young girl. She was raised and attended school in Detroit before joining the workforce. Evelyn would eventually meet the love of her life and marry Walter Merrifield in 1939.

Evelyn and her husband Walter raised their family in Detroit and later moved to Harrison Township, Michigan, following Walter's retirement from the Detroit Fire Department.

Evelyn always enjoyed working having lived through the depression. She worked for Sears Department Store at Macomb Mall for many years in the catalog sales department... Evelyn was one of the first mall employees. Following her retirement at age 65 from Sears, she continued to work for the mall's information desk until finally retiring at age 75.

When Evelyn was not busy working she enjoyed tending to her home and flower's in the yard. Quiet time usually involved watching old classic movie musicals. Evelyn also enjoyed traveling and over the years has visited Hawaii, Greece, and Italy.

Evelyn was the beloved wife of the late Walter Merrifield and was the dear mother of Linda (the late Lloyd) Greer, Carole Franks (John Zeldam), Janice (the late Ben) Calandra, and George Merrifield. Mother in-law of Donald Franks and loving grandmother of Paul Horton, Lynn Burrick, Gary (Diane) Franks, Cheryl Masters, Roy D. Ruel, and the late Christopher Franks,…whose beautiful wife Marcia remains. She was also the great-grandmother of Kyle Franks, Lily Franks, Neil Franks, Clint (Mary) Grant, Erin (Nik) Businani, and great-great-grandmother of Cyrus, Owen, Ciarra, Troy, and Marissa. Evelyn was the sister of the late Daniel (the late Lucille) Chappel.

Visitation for Evelyn will be held Thursday from 5-9pm, with a 8pm Funeral Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren.
