Football Emblem

Gary Michael Smith, age 63 of Sterling Heights, died Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at his residence. He was born April 29, 1953 in Detroit, son of the late Herbert A. and the late Geraldine M. (nee: Hurkett) Smith.

Gary was a simple man with simple interests and, like most guys, truly enjoyed his sporting pleasures,…especially when it came to football. Yet he wasn't all that particular as evidenced by the "winged wheel" on his shirt in the accompanying photo with this obituary. If it had anything to do with sports in the "D", Gary was certainly a fan and enthusiast.

Yet of all the pastimes and interests that Gary enjoyed, little could hold a candle to his passion when it came to his love of movies and music,…particularly the Beatles and 60's tunes. Whether watching a good flick or listening to a great song, Gary could easily get swept away with either.

But his family reached the pinnacle of his love and admiration, and spending time with them meant the world to Gary. Family was the core of his life and their inclusion never ceased to make his day bright. He touched a multitude of hearts and souls in his journey through life and will be missed immensely.

Gary was the loving brother of Samantha (Mark) Lombardo and Martin (Laurilee) Anderson. Cherished uncle of Marty Jr., Erik, Nathan, Mark Jr., and Jordan (a.k.a. "Kitty Cat").

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are welcomed to the family of Gary Smith.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren.

Please share memories of Gary at his memory book above.
