Helen Vonda Nieman, age 98 died Tuesday May 22, 2018 at St. John Macomb Hospital in Warren, Michigan. Helen was born April 27, 1920 in Saskatchewan Canada the daughter of the late Anthony and the late Elizabeth Kuchapski.

Helen was raised and educated in the Saskatoon area and later met a young United States military man at a local USO dance by the name of Gerald Nieman. What started as a simple dance led to a life for over 65 years of memories for both Gerald and Helen.

Upon Gerald's honorable discharge from his military service the young couple returned to Gerald's hometown of Detroit to start a family. Gerald would work for a pharmaceutical company and Helen would become a stay at home mom to raise her two sons. Initially Helen and her family settled in East Detroit and later following Gerald's retirement the family moved to Warren, Michigan.

When Helen's sons were young they remember their mother as a wonderful homemaker and cook. Although she never learned to drive a car she was able to negotiate all her daily tasks. In retirement Helen and her husband traveled to many locals including Africa and Hawaii. However all the joys she experienced in life... nothing gave her more joy than her grandsons and great-grandchildren.

Helen was the beloved wife of the late Gerald Nieman, and was the dearest mother of Gary (Lee) Nieman and Gordon (Diane) Nieman. She was also the loving grandmother of Aaron, Peter, Sean (Lisa), Bradley (Chris), and great-grandmother of Brianna, Jenna, Aaron Jr., Miles, and Jack.

A Memorial Visitation for Helen will be held on Saturday May 26th, from 2-5pm, with a 5pm Memorial Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren.

Memorial donations may be made to the donor's choice. Please share memories of Helen at her memory book above.
