John Ivan Scroggie, age 91 of Warren, died Saturday, July 1, 2017 at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born May 14, 1926 in Belfast, Ireland, son of the late John and the late Madeline (nee: Milligan) Scroggie.

John Ivan Scroggie was born May 14, 1926 on Isoline Street in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He was the second child of John and Madeleine Scroggie. John grew up in Belfast with his three brothers, Reggie, Fred and David. As a young man in Northern Ireland, he met a young woman named Charlotte Beckett on a church retreat. They later reconnected at the end of World War II at a V-J Day celebration in Belfast City Centre. In his younger days John worked numerous jobs before serving his apprenticeship as a Carpenter. In 1955 he moved to Toronto, Ontario with several friends, including his future brother-in-law, Billy and took a position with A.V. Roe Aircraft. After 2 years with A. V. Roe he heard of open positions for skilled tradesmen in Michigan. He found a new position with General Motors at the new Tech Center facility in Warren, Michigan. After he began his new job with GM he returned to Belfast and married Charlotte. They emigrated to the United States and settled in Warren near the GM facility.

John and Charlotte had five children; Sandra, Perry, Derek, Raymond and Kerry. They raised their children on the values of faith, family and friendship. The Scroggie family was very active in the church. John and Charlotte were founding members of Faith United Church of Christ. John used his woodworking skills to build the baptismal stand that was used for generations of baptism ceremonies at the church. John became a US citizen in 1962. He worked at General Motors for 35 years and retired from the Design Staff in 1991. John was the proud father of his 5 children, and loving grandfather of his 12 grandchildren. He was very supportive in all of their activities. He was a proud presence at the ice rink, lacrosse field and the dance studio. He always had a smile and a joke for his grandchildren and his signature move was a handshake that usually included a hidden $5 bill. John was an avid animal lover and had an almost mystical friendship with animals of any kind. He passed his love of animals on to his children and grandchildren. His humor and love will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

John was the beloved husband of the late Charlotte. Dear father of Sandra (Mark) Hebberd, Perry (Caroline), Derek (Kathleen), Raymond (Jill), and Kerry Davis. Loving grandfather of Katie (Ian) Bartlett, Bethan, Abigail, Alex, Erica (Fiancé, Adam Tamburro), Emily, Madelyn, Molly, Adam, Andrew, Hannah (Fiancé, Rico Cruz) and Jacob. Brother of Fred, David, and the late Reggie.

Visitation for John will be held Thursday, July 6th from 3-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd.) in Warren. His Funeral Service will be conducted Friday, 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan.

Memorial donations may be made to the Michigan Humane Society.
