Leonard Arthur Sowders, age 89, died Monday April 15, 2019 at his home in Warren, Michigan. Leonard was born April 20, 1929 in Detroit Michigan the son of the late George Edward Sowders and the late Hilma (nee: Griebe) Sowders.

Leonard was a lifelong resident of Warren, Michigan and a graduate from Lincoln High School. He later served in the United States Navy as an electronics technician aboard three different destroyers from 1947 - 1951 during the Korean War. While fighting the war effort, Mr. Sowders' ships would escort aircraft carriers that would later launch strikes against the North Korean and Chinese forces.

With thanks and praise, Leonard returned home safely after serving his country honorably in the armed forces. He would eventually join the Warren Fire Department where he spent the next 21 years before his retirement.

Leonard enjoyed his time outdoors and tending to his home. He could fix just about anything and was always available to family and neighbors for a chat. His mantra in life was to be kind to others and always thank God for everyday you are given.

Leonard was the beloved husband of the late Julia, and dear father of Lee (Christy) Sowders, Peter (Deb) Sowders, Eric Sowders, Ann Jennifer Kelly, Daniel (Darla) Sowders, Pat Wheaten, Ken Spress, and Denise (Mike) Osterman. Dear brother of Gilbert (Pam) Sowders, and predeceased by his other siblings, Robert, Laverne, Frederick, Georgia, and Irene. Leonard is further survived by 19 Grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, in Warren, Michigan. Mr. Sowder will be inurned at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan with military honors at a later date.
