Heart Emblem

Lucille Lupu Bandu, age 95, passed away at her home on October 11, 2018. Forever proud of her Romanian heritage, she was born in Detroit in 1923 to Rozalia and George Lupu, each of whom emigrated to the U.S. with their families as children in the early part of the 20th Century. Her dad eventually was ordained as a priest in the Romanian Orthodox Church and became involved in establishing a firm foundation for this faith in Michigan.

All her life, Lucille was known for her exceptional intelligence, sparkling eyes, quick wit, true grit and her lifelong devotion to the Romanian Orthodox faith. She was blessed with a perfect match in her marriage to John Bandu in 1965. John, too, possessed all of those wonderful qualities that made Lucille so special. John died in 2003 leaving a hole in Lucille's heart that never quite healed.

Lucille is survived by her nieces Janet Reister (Carl) of Texas and Sharon Lemieux of Michigan, and cousin John Ursu (Mary) of Minnesota, and their children and grandchildren. Lucille's only sister, Amelia, died in 1964.

The family is especially grateful for the extraordinary care and attention given Lucille for the 15 years after John's death by her loving neighbor Joyce Jordan and her husband Loren, without whose support Lucille would not have been able to so happily live out her life in the comfort of her own home. The family is also most grateful to her devoted home health caregivers, Tonya Rogers and Lisa Bryant, who gave Lucille the very best of round-the-clock care for the past several years as her health gradually declined.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 14th from 3 - 8 pm, with a 7:00 pm Vigil Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. A Romanian Orthodox Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 10:00 am at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Detroit.
