Rose Virginia Salvaggio, age 88 of Clinton Township, died Monday, October 10, 2016 at the Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Shelby Township, Michigan. She was born August 20, 1928 in Gary, Indiana, daughter of the late George and the late Ann (nee: Ellis) Elias.

Following her Indiana birth, Rose's family decided to relocate to the state of Michigan where they settled in Detroit and made their home in the ethnic area of Corktown. That is where she grew up, and is also where Rose's Dad owned a grocery store. As she grew and matured and began to contemplate her future, the prospect of work became a very determined goal. Rose eventually landed a position with the automotive supplier, Federal Mogul, where she worked as a secretary and extended the utmost in dedicated service for many years.

Rose's time away from work included a number of different pleasures and pastimes, things she loved to do to bring a bit of balance to life. For a little fun with friends, Rose loved to bowl and was an avid splitter of the pins. As much as it offered the element of sport, it also provided the perfect opportunity to engage with her friends and fellow bowlers for some fun and exercise. Sharing time with friends would also entail some card playing with the name of the game being Bridge. It may have been a thinking person's source of entertainment, but it was also a welcomed chance to share in lively conversation as well.

As for other interests she enjoyed, Rose loved putting her creative hands to work with a scan of yarn and her knitting needles. Knitting was not only a source of producing artsy and useful goods, but she knew that it was also a great way to keep her hands limber. Another aspect that Rose was known for was through her collectibles which included plates and figurines, with some of the more notable pieces being her treasured Hummel Collection. Extremely precious and intricate in their creation, she loved displaying her pieces with great pride and appreciation.

It was later in life that Rose met the man who would sweep her off her feet, the dashing Rick Salvaggio. The two were married in 1969 and spent the next 47 years together, until his death earlier this year. Prior to his passing, these two Michigander's came to an agreement that it was time to enjoy their retirement years in the warmth of the Sunshine State, so they moved to Clearwater, Florida where they would eventually become the owners of a couple of different condos in the area.

Beloved wife of the late Richard "Rick." Dear sister of the late Lottie, the late John, the late Michael. Sister in law of Elizabeth Rebey and Rose (Dan) Casoli. Loving aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Rose will be held Thursday from 3-9 pm, with a 7:00 pm Scripture Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. She will lie in state Friday, 10:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at St. Ronald Catholic Church in Clinton Township, Michigan.
