Shirley Ann Kozlowski, age 81, died Friday, September 28, 2018 in Warren. Shirley was born February 15, 1937 in Hamtramck, Michigan, the youngest of 4 children and daughter of the late John and the late Mary (nee Glowacz) May.

As a young child Shirley lived in the thriving Polish community of Hamtramck where she would eventually attend St. Florian High School. During this time she met a young lady named Rose Kozlowski; Rose introduced Shirley to her brother George when Shirley was just 15 and George was 18. The two would start a courtship that lasted 3 years and ultimately lead to their marriage on June 18, 1955 at St. Florian Catholic Church in Hamtramck. At the time of their marriage, George was now 21 and Shirley 18.

The young newlyweds continued to call Hamtramck their home. They welcomed their first son Michael into their lives in 1962, son Joseph in 1964, and their baby boy, John would join the family in 1968. Shirley was a hard working young woman who worked as a seamstress in the Drapery business until she reached her 50's when the industry dwindled away. When Shirley was not hard at work, she enjoyed spending time at her neighbors cottage on Pontiac Lake. She enjoyed many quiet days for over 25 years at the lake.

Shirley was the loving wife of George; the beloved mother of Michael, Joseph (Rhonda) and John Kozlowski; and cherished grandmother of Valerie, James and Katrina Kozlowski. She was the dear sister of Carol Kowalski, and was preceded in death by brothers John and Ted .

Visitation for Shirley will be held Thursday, October 4th from 5 - 9 pm, with an evening Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren.

She will lie in state on Friday from 9:30 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Florian Catholic Church, 2626 Poland Street in Hamtramck, Michigan.

Please share memories of Shirley at her guest book above.
