Stella Helen Piotrowski, age 91, died on Christmas morning, December 25, 2017 at Cherrywood Nursing Home in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Stella was born at home in Hamtramck, Michigan at 8:30pm on April 20, 1926, daughter of the late Stanley Kowalski and the late Katherine (nee: Czerw) Kowalski.

Stella was raised in Hamtramck and graduated from St. Ladislaus Catholic High School in 1944, all the while working during high school. She first worked part-time at Lenzon's Dime Store and later worked at Champion Spark Plug factory as a quality control inspector. Following high school, Stella continued working for Champion and eventually worked her way into administration as a secretary. Becoming a secretary seemed to fulfill a lifetime goal for Stella... even as a young child Stella would play office and secretary.

As fate would have it, Stella would meet her future husband at a dance in Hamtramck after the war ended. She was attracted to the young, good looking boy, who was a good dancer and also attended church. Stella and Joe Piotrowski would eventually marry in January 1947. The young couple settled in Hamtramck to begin a life together and raise their children.

Early in her marriage Stella worked as an admitting clerk at St. Francis Hospital in Hamtramck, and later hired on with the City of Hamtramck in the city clerk's office. Her job within the clerk's office required someone with bilingual skills to speak both English and Polish of which Stella was proficient both in speaking and writing.

Away from work, Stella was a devoted and loving mother and caretaker of her children and family. Her children fondly remember all the wonderful meals cooked and prepared for them while growing up. Also Stella's children fondly remember their mother for her many skills including sewing, baking, and keeping their home immaculate. She held a deep devotion to her Catholic Church and instilled Christian values within her children. She will forever be remembered for extolling wisdom to her children while dealing with life's challenges.

Stella was the beloved mother of Constance (the late Joseph) Anderson of Lincoln, California, Catherine (John) McDivitt of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Michael (Sally) Piotrowski of Fairfax, Virginia, and David (Tammy) Piotrowski of Lincoln Park, Michigan. She was the cherished grandmother of Scott (Megan) Anderson, Jonathan (Erika) McDivitt, Briana McDivitt, David G. (Megan) Piotrowski, Daniel Piotrowski, Justin Piotrowski, and great-grandmother of Parker, Sophia, and Vivienne. Stella was the sister of the late Stanley (Jane) Kowalski, and the late Walter (Virginia) Kowalski.

Visitation for Stella will be held Friday, December 29th from 3-9pm, with a 7 pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. Stella will lie in state on Saturday from 10:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at St. Faustina Catholic Church (formerly St. Edmund) 14025 E. 12 Mile Road in Warren.
