William Madro of Clinton Township, Michigan, age 97, died Tuesday April 16, 2019 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Michigan. William was born December 18, 1921 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Stanley Madro and the late Anna (nee: Ciecerenga) Madro.

William was raised in Detroit and was a proud graduate of Cass Technical High School. He would later serve, from 1942-1946, as a soldier in the United States Army during World War II, attaining the rank of Sergeant. With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to William for his honorable service and extend our posthumous gratitude for his willingness to stand in harm's way for the sake of freedom. William returned home from the war, only to meet a beautiful young woman from Chicago, Miss Helen Stepalski. In 1949, following a courtship that blossomed into romance, the two lovebirds decided to join with each other in marriage as they shared their vows in a ceremony held at Five Holy Martyrs Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois. The young couple eventually settled in Detroit where they began a life and family together as husband & wife.

William worked his entire career within the automobile industry... first working for Vickers, then Chrysler, and finally for the Budd Company where he retired as a quality control layout inspector. He was the consummate tinkerer. When William was not on the clock, he enjoyed dabbling in carpentry, woodworking at home, or just looking for projects to keep his hands and mind busy.

William and his family were former members of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Detroit,...and later, after moving to Warren, became members of St. Martin dePorres Catholic Church. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Pius the X Council.

When William found some leisure time, and even in retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling to many locations within the United States, including California, Hawaii, and Alaska. The couple also visited Europe and Poland. In addition to his fondness for traveling, William was an ardent Detroit Tigers and Lions sports fan.

William was the beloved husband, for over 50 years, to the late Helen Madro, and the dear father of Susan Madro, William (Lea) Madro, and Donald Madro. Mr. Madro was the dear brother of the late Joseph (Lillian) Madro, the late Josephine (Bill) Dedes, and brother in-law of Wanda (the late Robert) Gaynes. He was the uncle of Nancy (Robert) Wersto, Thomas (Pamela) Gaynes, and Stanley (Nancy) Madro. William will be dearly missed by many other family members and friends.

Mr. Madro will lie in state on Tuesday, April 23rd from 9:00 am until time of the Funeral Liturgy at 9:30 am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Warren. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Reverend Fr. Nick Zukowski. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan.
