John was raised in Buffalo until middle school before moving to Michigan with his mother. John graduated from L'Anse Creuse North High School in 1983 and went on to college and trade school studying tool & die. John would work for over 20 years for KSI machine and engineering as a tool maker.

John loved playing hockey as a child and as an adult, and even officiated the game as an adult. He coached his sons in hockey, baseball, and mentored his eldest son in the game of golf. When it wasnt sports John was found fishing with his boys or traveling with his family to Disney or Cedar Point. John loved the thrill of speed and roller coasters, and this excitement also extended to his cars and motorcycle.
Relaxation at home for John included watching University of Michigan sports with his wife and sons, and then cooking for the family. John loved to cook, however his cherished meal was Thanksgiving dinner and being able to carve the turkey for the whole family. His other favorite time was spent relaxing with his dog Hunter.
